Eyes On Earth
May 23 to September 1, 2008

more info: www.natureandscience.org

Location:
The Museum of Nature & Science is in Fair Park at 3535 Grand Ave. and 1318 S. 2nd Ave. Dallas, TX 75210 214-428-5555 ext. 8

Far beyond the atmosphere of Earth, at orbits ranging from 180 to over 22,000 miles above sea level, circle the satellites of the Earth Observing System (EOS), NASA’s primary satellite mission. This small group of man-made scientific observers is constantly scanning our planet--tracking weather, monitoring pollution, creating maps, and gathering information that helps scientists predict storms, monitor forest fires, and study the holes in the ozone layer. EYES ON EARTH is a new, highly interactive science exhibition that focuses on the EOS and examines how satellite observations are made and what we can learn about the Earth using space technology. Designed primarily for families and school groups (upper elementary through adults), visitors learn what a satellite is, discover the different types of orbits, and explore cutting-edge technology similar to that used by EOS scientists. EYES ON EARTH brings these concepts “down to earth” through a combination of fun, accessible interactive displays in a playful and “spacey” environment. The exhibit explores the basics of satellites, orbits, and satellite technology. Visit http://natureandscience.org/information/admission.asp for tickets, http://www.natureandscience.org/imax/default.asp for IMAX Theater information and http://www.natureandscience.org/planetarium/programs.asp for Planetarium programs and schedule. Admission is free for MNS members. General admission is $8.75 for adults, $5.50 for children 3 to 11, and $7.75 for youth 12 to 18, seniors over 62 and students over 18 (with ID). Planetarium and IMAX shows are additional (see Web site for details). Hours: Nature Building and Science Building: 10am-5pm Monday-Saturday, Noon-5pm Sunday. Planetarium: Open to the public on weekends; school groups on weekdays. IMAX: See http://www.natureandscience.org/imax/default.asp for features and showtimes.
